Liverpool Keeps Kuyt, Mulls Mascherano Exit, Mail Reports: Soccer Roundup

Mascherano Exit

Liverpool dashed Dirk Kuyt’s hopes of joining Inter Milan but may sell Javier Mascherano to Barcelona for 18 million pounds ($28 million), the Daily Mail reported.

Inter sent a fax to Liverpool asking to be informed if Kuyt is made available for transfer, the Mail said.

Barcelona has revived its interest in Mascherano, the newspaper added.

Chelsea Cheer

Coach Carlo Ancelotti said Chelsea is benefiting from England’s early World Cup exit, the Sun reported.

John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole got more time to rest and are more motivated after the national team flop, the Sun cited Ancelotti as saying.

Chelsea won both its opening Premier League games against West Bromwich Albion and Wigan 6-0.

Arsenal Bid

Arsenal had a second 2.5 million-pound bid for goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer rejected by Fulham, the Daily Mail reported.

Fulham coach Mark Hughes is waiting for what he considers a proper offer for the 37-year-old Schwarzer, the Mail said.

Hammers Talks

West Ham will hold talks in London with Inter Milan striker Victor Obinna today, the Daily Mirror reported.

The Hammers are seeking to bolster their squad after losing their first two Premier League games, the Mirror said.

Obinna, a 23-year-old Nigeria international, was loaned to Malaga last season by Inter, according to the newspaper.
