Turkey Removes Iran From Its `Red Book' Threat List, Milliyet Reports
Iran will be removed from a list of threats to Turkey in the biggest overhaul of the country’s national security document since the end of the Cold War, the Milliyet newspaper said.
The Turkish military, intelligence and diplomatic agencies are drafting changes to the country’s so-called Red Book that include the removal of any reference to the possibility that Iran may export its Islamic Revolution to Turkey, the newspaper reported without saying where it got the information.
Russia, Iraq and Greece will also be removed from the list of primary threats to Turkey’s security, in line with the ruling Justice and Development Party’s “zero problems” approach to diplomacy with its neighbors, Milliyet said.
Turkey’s national security document was last revised in 2005, when Islamic fundamentalism and Kurdish separatism were considered the greatest threats to the country’s security, Milliyet said.
