Burkina Dam Release May Displace 288,000 Downstream in Ghana, Times Says
Heavy rains in Burkina Faso will force the government to begin releasing water from two dams, causing flooding downstream in neighboring Ghana and displacing as many as 288,000 people, the Ghanaian Times said.
The release from Burkina’s Bagre and Compienga dams will begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow and Ghana dispatched relief workers and soldiers to communities along the Volta River to aid those in the flood’s path, the Accra-based newspaper said, citing the National Disaster Management Organization.
