Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak approved “in principle” moving forward with the purchase of F35I fighter jets from the U.S., according to an e-mailed statement from the Defense Ministry today.
Final approval for the deal, which would include the purchase of as many as 20 planes for a total of $2.75 billion, will be made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet, a second statement from the ministry said.
Under terms of the deal, the aircraft would be delivered over a two-year period starting in 2015, according to the statement.
