Tele Norte Leste Participacoes SA is likely to be chosen by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to manage Brazil’s broadband Internet network, Diario Economico reported, citing unidentified people in the country’s telecommunications industry.
The decision may be announced soon, the Lisbon-based newspaper said. Diario said the scale of the project favors the selection of Tele Norte, also known as Oi, which is the country’s biggest telecommunications company. It may raise concern that the government is promoting the dominance of a single company, Diario added.
