Australia’s opposition coalition has reaffirmed plans to scrap the Labor government’s national broadband plan should they win election on Aug. 21.
The coalition had previously pledged to get rid of Labor’s planned A$43 billion national high-speed Internet fiber network being built by state-owned NBN Co. after an A$11 billion compensation deal clinched by the government in June with Telstra Corp.
In a policy statment released today, the coalition promised to invest A$2.75 billion on fiber optic networks, a pledge it says is fully costed and funded. The coalition would also establish a national broadband commission.
