Angiotech, Ivanhoe, RIM, Transition Therapeutics: Canadian Equity Preview

Shares of the following companies may have unusual moves in Canadian trading.

Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ANP CT): The medical-device maker’s filters used to keep blood clots out of lungs should be removed when they are no longer needed because they may cause complications if left in the body, U.S. regulators told doctors in a posting on a government website.

Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (IE CT): The developer of the Tamarack oil-sands project posted a second-quarter loss of 3 cents a share versus the loss of 1 cent analysts estimated on average according to Bloomberg data.

Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM CT): Saudi Arabia’s government and RIM have reportedly reached an agreement on the use of the company’s BlackBerry instant messaging service in the kingdom, a U.S. spokesman said.

Transition Therapeutics Inc. (TTH CT): The Toronto-based drugmaker and Elan Corp. said their Phase 2 placebo-controlled AD201 study for patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease produced results that did not achieve statistical significance.
