Manchester United Defeats Chelsea 3-1 to Win Soccer's Community Shield

Manchester United beat Chelsea 3-1 to win the Community Shield, the curtain-raiser to English soccer’s Premier League season.

Antonio Valencia, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov got the goals at London’s Wembley Stadium today, with Salomon Kalou replying for Chelsea.

The Community Shield is usually contested by the winners of the previous season’s Premier League and the F.A. Cup and raises money for charities and community groups. As Chelsea won both competitions, league runnerup United was involved today.
