South African Communist Party's Deputy Leader Backs Planned Media Tribunal

Jeremy Cronin, the deputy general secretary of the South African Communist Party, said he backs the proposal by the African National Congress to establish a media tribunal because the country’s newspapers are making too many errors.

“As this week’s carnival of of newspaper apologies demonstrates, self-regulation on its own simply isn’t working,” he said in a column in Johannesburg’s Times newspaper. The column was first carried in the Communist Party’s Umsebenzi Online newsletter.
