NFL Sack Leader Dumervil May Miss Four Months After Muscle Tear, ESPN Says

Denver Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who led the National Football League with 17 sacks last season, may miss four months after tearing his pectoral muscle at training camp, ESPN reports.

Dumervil’s injury comes less than a month after he signed a five-year, $58.3 million contract extension that ESPN says included almost $43.2 million in guaranteed money.

Dumervil, 26, will seek a second opinion on the injury to get a more specific idea of how much time he might miss, ESPN said, citing unidentified people in the league. The Broncos open the NFL regular season on Sept. 12 at Jacksonville.

Broncos spokesman Erich Schubert said in an e-mail that the team has a policy of not commenting on injuries.
