Conoco Assessing Damage at Shut Santa Maria Refinery (Update1)
ConocoPhillips is assessing electrical equipment damage at its Santa Maria refinery in Arroyo Grande, California, Bill Stephens, a company spokesman, said in an e-mail.
The plant will restart when repairs are done, Stephens said. The plant shut Aug. 1 after experiencing “an electrical equipment failure and power outage.”
“The restart schedule is proprietary and subject to change,” Stephens said. “Meanwhile, we are taking appropriate measures to continue meeting the needs of our customers.”
The premium for California-blend gasoline, or Carbob, in San Francisco rose 4 cents to 26 cents a gallon above New York Mercantile Exchange futures. The differential has increased 7.75 cents since July 29.
The refinery can process 44,000 barrels a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The plant sends some semi-refined products to Conoco’s Rodeo refinery, located near San Francisco, to upgrade into finished products.
The plants, linked by a 200-mile pipeline, can together process 120,200 barrels of oil a day.
