Deutsche Bank's Wolfgang Matis, Global Markets Germany Chief, Will Retire
Deutsche Bank AG’s Wolfgang Matis, head of the global markets unit in Germany, will be retiring at the end of 2010 after 33 years at the company.
Dirk Schmitz who is joining Frankfurt-based Deutsche Bank from Morgan Stanley, will assume Matis’s main responsibilities, according to an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg News and confirmed by spokesman Frank Hartmann.
Anshu Jain, who became sole head Deutsche Bank’s corporate and investment bank on July 1, is reshuffling parts of the business and has created a 15-member executive committee. He announced the hiring of Schmitz in February as head of coverage, institutional client group and debt capital markets, for Germany and Austria.
Matis, 53, helped oversee sales and trading, the bank’s biggest revenue driver, as the head of global markets in Germany and a member of the division’s executive committee. He began his career at Deutsche Bank trading equities and fixed income before taking on senior roles, such as head of global markets Europe and head of global government bond trading, the lender said.
Matis’s departure was previously reported by Handelsblatt.
