Padres Acquire Miguel Tejada, Cash From Orioles for Minor-Leaguer Pelzer

The San Diego Padres acquired six- time All-Star infielder Miguel Tejada and cash from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for minor-league pitcher Wynn Pelzer, General Manager Jed Hoyer said.

Tejada, 36, is hitting .269 with 16 doubles, 7 home runs, 39 runs batted in and 40 runs scored in 97 games this season. Originally signed by the Oakland Athletics in 1993, he has hit .288 with 292 home runs and 1,224 RBIs over 14 Major League Baseball seasons.

Pelzer, 24, has appeared in 22 games this year for the Padres Double-A affiliate in San Antonio. He was signed as a ninth-round selection in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
