Ecopetrol, Lojas Renner, MPX, Tele Norte: Latin America Equity Preview

The following companies may have unusual price changes in Latin American trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices reflect the previous close.

The MSCI Latin America Index slipped 0.1 percent to 4,043.42. In Brazil, preferred shares usually are the most- traded class of stock.

Brazil

Lojas Renner SA (LREN3 BS): Brazil’s biggest publicly traded clothing retailer posted a profit of 91 million reais in the second quarter, up 90 percent from a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing. The stock rose 3.8 percent to 54.48 reais.

MPX Energia SA (MPXE3 BS), an energy company controlled by billionaire Eike Batista, said it was granted a preliminary environmental license from the government of the state of Maranhao to install its electricity generation project MPX Parnaiba. MPX fell 1.7 percent to 20.80 reais.

Tele Norte Leste Participacoes SA (TNLP4 BS): The owner of the biggest fixed-line telephone company reported second-quarter profit of 444 million reais, according to a regulatory filing. The stock fell 4.9 percent to 25.84 reais.

Colombia

Ecopetrol SA (ECOPETL CB): The state-run oil company may sell a 9.9 percent stake next year as it seeks to fund part of its investment plans, President Javier Gutierrez said on a conference call with analysts. The stock fell 1.3 percent to 3,095 pesos.
