South Korea's Ruling Party Wins Five Out of Eight Seats in By-Elections
South Korea’s ruling Grand National Party won five of eight seats being contested in by-elections yesterday, cementing its majority in parliament.
President Lee Myung Bak’s Grand National Party will now hold 172 seats in the 299-member unicameral National Assembly, according to results of the elections posted on the National Election Commission’s website. Three candidates from the main opposition Democratic Party won, boosting the party’s seats in parliament to 87.
