Tanzanian Government's Anti-Graft Agency Makes 17 Arrests, Daily News Says

Tanzanian authorities arrested 17 people on bribery charges after they allegedly doled out money, garments and honey to win votes in October elections, the Daily News reported, citing a Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau official.

One of the apprehended, a female district commissioner, was running to become lawmaker for the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party in the northern Kilimanjaro constituency, the state-run, Dar es Salaam-based newspaper said today, citing regional PCCB commander Alexander Budigila.

Presidential and legislative elections are scheduled in the east African nation for Oct. 31, the newspaper said.
