Cameroon Begins Voter Registration Before Presidential Elections Next Year

Cameroon will begin a voter- registration program on Aug. 15 before presidential elections scheduled for October 2011, the Central African nation’s electoral authority said.
A campaign will start next week to encourage Cameroonians to participate in the process, Elections Cameroon General Manager Mohaman Taminou Sani said in an interview yesterday in the capital, Yaounde.
Cameroon, a nation of 19.4 million people, is the world’s fifth-biggest grower of cocoa. An estimated 9 million people are eligible to vote in the election, according to the country’s 2005 census.
