Earthquake Magnitude 5.3 Strikes North of Tokyo; No Threat of Tsunami
An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck Ibaraki prefecture, just north of Tokyo, at 6:06 a.m. local time, Japan’s Meteorological Agency reported. There was no danger of a tsunami wave from the quake, the agency said.
Train operators reported no major disruptions in service, and police said there were no immediate reports of damage, public broadcaster NHK said.
