Kouchner, Frattini, Moratinos Propose European Union Gaza Inspection Plan

Foreign ministers of France, Italy and Spain recommended in an editorial in Le Figaro that a European Union-backed inspection system be put in place to ensure that cargo headed for Gaza doesn’t contain arms.

Their proposal follows Israel’s raid on a flottila of ships trying to breach its blocade of the Gaza Strip, which left nine people dead.

The EU could put in place a structure acceptable to all sides that would allow food and other humanitarian necessities enter the area, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, and his Italian and Spanish counterparts, Franco Frattini and Miguel Angel Moratinos, wrote in the newspaper.
