Alex Patelis to Leave Pellegrini's Hedge Fund to Start Research Company

Alex Patelis, chief economist at PSQR LLC, the hedge-fund firm run by Paolo Pellegrini, plans to leave after 13 months to start his own research company.

Patelis Macro Advisors, based in Athens, will open in September, offering macroeconomic research to clients, the firm said in an e-mailed statement today. Patelis, 39, will resign from Hamilton, Bermuda-based PSQR at the end of June.

The economist previously worked at Merrill Lynch & Co. where he was a managing director for global research based in London. Patelis, who has a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University, in Princeton, New Jersey, joined PSQR in May 2009.

Pellegrini, the former Paulson & Co. hedge-fund manager who helped make more than $3 billion with bets on a U.S. housing crash, started PSQR last year.
