A Wyoming ranch where Marlboro cigarette ads and a movie starring Ron Howard were made will be offered for sale at an auction next month for a minimum of $15 million.

The Teton Valley Ranch was founded in 1927 to raise cattle. It has a 10,000-square-foot (929-square-meter) main house, a warm-water lake and an almost century-old barn where Marlboro shot ads and Walt Disney Co. filmed “The Wild Country,” said broker Richard Lewis at Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty Inc.

A son of David Abercrombie, co-founder of the retailer Abercrombie & Fitch, once owned the property, Lewis said. He declined to identify the current owner of the ranch, which has views of the Teton Mountains and is adjacent to the National Elk Refuge and Grand Teton National Park.

“There hasn’t been a lack of money in the high-end world to acquire unique and special properties, but these buyers have been sitting on the sidelines,” Lewis said in a telephone interview.

Bidders have three options for buying the roughly 100 acres (40 hectares) marketed by closely held Concierge Auctions. Estate Parcel I, originally listed for sale at $29.5 million, has an $11 million reserve price; Parcel II, originally listed at $17.9 million, has a $4 million reserve; and both parcels together can be sold for as little as $15 million.

The auctioneer is required to sell the properties to the buyer or buyers with the highest aggregate bids greater than the reserve amounts, New York-based Concierge Auctions said. Bidders must register by July 14 and the auction will take place at the ranch on July 16. The purchase is supposed to be completed within 30 days.

Wine Cellar

The main residence has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, three half bathrooms and a wine cellar that can hold more than 1,000 bottles, Lewis said.

The seller put the property up for sale in 2008 because he was spending more time at a horse ranch near Washington, D.C., and was putting money into his businesses, Lewis said. The Jackson Hole residence is 90 percent complete, allowed its buyers to finish the interior to their tastes, he said.

The home has an entry hall with stained-glass windows, a master suite with a private deck and his-and-hers walk-in closets. Claw-foot tubs and glass showers are in two of the three bedroom suites on the second floor. The home overlooks a warm-spring lake that can be used for swimming and canoeing year-round.

The home sits on Parcel I, which also features a two- bedroom, two-bath log-cabin guesthouse across the lake from the main residence. The cabin dates back to the days of the Teton Valley Ranch Camp, which was founded in 1939 and attracted children from the Kennedy, Rockefeller and Du Pont families, Lewis said. The camp has since moved to another ranch nearby.

Parcel II includes the Marlboro barn, a 1,700-square-foot home with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and two log cabins that could be used for guests or caretakers.
