Vijay Singh Accepts Special Exemption to Play in U.S. Open at Pebble Beach
Singh, a three-time major winner, hasn’t won a tournament in two years and has dropped out of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Those players are exempt from qualifying for the tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.
Singh, who has battled injuries over the last two seasons, has played in 63 straight major tournaments, dating back to the 1994 British Open, the longest active streak. He was set to play in a qualifying event in Ohio on June 7.
Singh won the 2000 Masters Tournament and the 1998 and 2004 PGA Championships. He has competed in 16 U.S. Opens, including the last 15, finishing in the top 10 seven times. His best finish was a tie for third in 1999.
