Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin gave the government a month to decide on how to support OAO Raspadskaya, the nation’s largest supplier of coal used to make steel last year, after explosions wrecked its main mine.
“A lot of money needs to be invested there,” Viktor Zubkov, Putin’s deputy, told reporters today after announcing the order. Ninety workers were killed in the blasts this month.
Reconstruction of the mine may cost about 6 billion rubles ($193 million), according to Aman Tuleyev, governor of Kemerovo region, where Raspadskaya and its eponymous mine are located.
