Four Gorillas Killed by Extreme Cold Weather in Rwanda, New Times Reports
Four gorillas found dead in Rwanda’s Karisimbi area probably died of extreme cold, the New Times reported, citing Rica Rwigamba, head of tourism at the Rwanda Development Board.
The gorillas, a female and three infants, were found dead between May 16 and May 17, the Kigali-based newspaper said. Post-mortems are now being carried out to confirm what killed the apes, all of which were known to rangers and were named last year, the New Times said.
Of the 400 gorillas living in the region between Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, about 265 are regularly monitored in Rwanda, according to the newspaper.
