Brother of George H.W. Bush Is Alert After Collapsing at Investor Meeting

William H.T. Bush, the brother of former President George H.W. Bush, was “stable and alert” at an Indianapolis hospital after collapsing today at a WellPoint Inc. shareholder meeting, a spokeswoman for the insurer said.

Bush, 71, was admitted at Methodist Hospital as a precaution and is being evaluated, Kristin Binns, the spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. Bush, a WellPoint board member, collapsed during the company’s annual meeting and was treated on the scene by emergency medical technicians as well as WellPoint Chief Medical Officer Sam Nussbaum, she said.

Chief Executive Officer Angela Braly canceled the rest of the meeting after the incident, Binns said.

Bush, nicknamed “Bucky,” is chairman and co-founder of Bush O’Donnell Capital Partners LLC, an investment-fund manager and private equity firm based in St. Louis.
