Virginia Defeats Mount St. Mary's 18-4 in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament

The top-seeded University of Virginia Cavaliers defeated Mount St. Mary’s University 18-4 in the opening round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s men’s lacrosse tournament.

It was the first game for the host Cavaliers since a member of their team, midfielder George Huguely, 22, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Yeardley Love, 22, who played on the women’s lacrosse team.

In other first-round games yesterday, it was Duke University 18, Johns Hopkins University 5; Cornell University 11, Loyola University in Baltimore 10; Stony Brook University 9, University of Denver 7; and University of Maryland 11, Hofstra University 8.

Virginia’s women’s lacrosse team will host a first-round game today against Towson University.
