Blackhawks Beat Vancouver Canucks in Game 6 to Advance in NHL Playoffs

The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 to reach the National Hockey League’s Western Conference finals.

The Blackhawks, who won the best-of-seven series 4-2, will play the San Jose Sharks in the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

After a scoreless first period at General Motors Place in Vancouver, Troy Brouwer and Kris Versteeg scored 36 seconds apart early in the second period. Dave Bolland added a shorthanded goal late in the period to give Chicago a 3-0 lead.

Shane O’Brien gave the Canucks their only goal less than four minutes into the third period, before Patrick Kane and Dustin Byfuglien scored in a 25-second span for Chicago.

The Montreal Canadiens and host Pittsburgh Penguins play a decisive Game 7 tonight in their Eastern Conference semifinal series, while the Boston Bruins try for the third straight game to finish off the host Philadelphia Flyers. The Bruins lead the series 3-2.
