U.K. Education Secretary Ed Balls retained his seat in the House of Commons. He won 18,365 votes, compared with 17,264 for the Conservative Party candidate, according to the returning officer for the constituency.
The cameras “didn’t quite get the moment they were looking for, though I have to say it was quite close,” Balls said. The Conservative candidate “fought a very straight and decent campaign.”
