The Boston Bruins moved within one game of sweeping their series with the Philadelphia Flyers by winning 4-1 in Game 3 of the National Hockey League Eastern Conference semifinals.
The Bruins can eliminate the Flyers with a win in Game 4 of the best-of-seven playoff series tomorrow in Philadelphia. They’d then play the Pittsburgh Penguins or Montreal Canadiens for a place in the Stanley Cup finals.
The Flyers took the lead after 2 minutes, 32 seconds of the first period at Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on Arron Asham’s goal. Less than two minutes later, Boston’s Blake Wheeler tied the game and Miroslav Satan put the Bruins ahead 2-1 after 5:45.
After a scoreless second period, the Bruins extended their advantage with a power-play goal by Mark Recchi at the start of the third period and an empty-net score by Patrice Bergeron less than two minutes from the end.
At General Motors Place in Vancouver, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 in a Western Conference semifinal game. The win put the Blackhawks ahead of the Canucks 2-1 in their playoff series.
The teams play Game 4 tomorrow in Vancouver.
