South African Opposition COPE Party May Oust Leader Lekota, Times Reports

South Africa’s opposition Congress of the People may oust its president, Mosiuoa Lekota, at a planned national committee meeting this weekend, the Times reported, citing unidentified party officials.

The party’s leadership is unhappy with Lekota’s comments this week accusing his deputy, Mbhazima Shilowa, of mismanaging party funds, the Johannesburg-based newspaper said. Members of COPE’s national committee may call for a vote of no confidence in Lekota on May 2, the Times said.
