Celtics, Cavaliers to Meet in NBA Playoffs Second Round; Lakers, Mavs Win

The Boston Celtics will play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association playoffs after both wrapped up their first-round series 4-1.

The Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 96-86 last night and the Cavaliers beat the Chicago Bulls 96-94. In other games, the Dallas Mavericks beat the San Antonio Spurs 103-81 to avoid elimination and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Oklahoma Thunder 111-87 to take a 3-2 lead in the series.

Ray Allen scored 24 points and Paul Pierce added 21 for the Celtics at TD Garden in Boston. Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 31 points and eight rebounds, while Mario Chalmers came off the bench to score 20 points.

At Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Antawn Jamison scored 25 points to lead the home team. LeBron James had 19 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to finish one assist short of posting a second straight triple-double. Derrick Rose led the Bulls with 31 points and Luol Deng had 26.

The Celtics and Cavaliers begin their series May 1 in Cleveland.

The Mavericks trail the Spurs 3-2 in their series after the win at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Caron Butler contributed a game-high 35 points for the home team and Tony Parker came off the bench to lead the Spurs with 18 points.

At the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Pau Gasol scored 25 points for the defending champion Lakers and Kobe Bryant added 13 points. The teams head to Oklahoma City for the sixth game on April 30.
