Orlando Magic Center Dwight Howard Is Named NBA's Defensive Player of Year

Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard was named the National Basketball Association’s Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Howard, 24, averaged 13.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks, leading the league in both categories.

Howard received 576 points, including 110 first-place votes, from a panel of 122 sportswriters and broadcasters in the U.S. and Canada. Atlanta’s Joe Smith finished second with 136 points and Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace came in third with 113.

Players received five points for each first-place vote, three points for second and one point for third.
