CEDC May Bid for Ukraine’s Nemiroff Vodka Maker, CEO Carey Says

Central European Distribution Corp. (CEDC), the owner of Russian Alcohol Group, is interested in buying a stake in Nemiroff, a Ukrainian vodka producer, CEDC Chief Executive Officer William Carey said.

“Potentially we could be interested in a majority stake, not necessarily 100 percent,” Carey said in an e-mail today. “We’re waiting for the official start of negotiations.”

Poland’s CEDC is ready to buy a 40 percent stake in Nemiroff from Yakov Gribov and 30 percent from Anatoly Kipish, Russia’s Kommersant newspaper said today, citing an unidentified person familiar with talks. Stepan Glus, who owns the remaining stake in the vodka maker, wants to keep his holding, Kommersant added.

Nemiroff was valued at as much as $350 million, Victor Dima, an analyst at Oktritie investment bank in Moscow, wrote in a report Feb. 3.
