RRI Energy Idles Natural Gas Coolwater Plant in California

RRI Energy Inc., a Houston-based independent power producer, idled a California electricity generator.

The company’s 245.3-megawatt Coolwater Generating Station Unit 3 was shut for planned reasons as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

The unit operating at full capacity yesterday, a previous report showed.

The plant, which burns natural gas, is northeast of Los Angeles in Daggett, California.

One megawatt is enough power for about 800 average U.S. homes, according to the Energy Department in Washington.
