RRI Energy Increases Power at Coolwater Plant in California

RRI Energy Inc., owner of power plants in nine U.S. states, increased production at a California electricity generator.

The company’s 245.3-megawatt Coolwater Generating Station Unit 3 was operating at full capacity as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

The unit was operating at 49 percent capacity at the same time yesterday, having idled 125.3 megawatts for unplanned reasons, a previous report showed.

The plant, which burns natural gas, is northeast of Los Angeles.

One megawatt is enough power for about 800 average U.S. homes, according to the Energy Department in Washington.
