Reliant Energy Reduces Power at Coolwater Plant in California

Reliant Energy Inc., owner of power plants in eight U.S. states, reduced production at a California electricity generator.

The company’s 245.3-megawatt Coolwater Generating Station Unit 3 was operating at 49 percent capacity, having idled 125.3 megawatts for unplanned reasons as of 3:15 p.m. local time today, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

The facility was operating at full capacity at the same time yesterday, a previous report showed.

The plant is northeast of Los Angeles.

One megawatt is enough power for about 800 average U.S. homes, according to the Energy Department in Washington.
