R.H. Donnelley Says President McDonald to Retire

R.H. Donnelley Corp., the publisher of Yellow Pages phone directories, said President and Chief Operating Officer Peter J. McDonald will retire on Sept. 1.

George F. Bednarz, who was promoted to executive vice president of enterprise sales and operations, will assume some of McDonald's responsibilities, the Cary, North Caroline-based company said today in a statement.

Bednarz, 54, has been taking more responsibility for operations during the past two years as part of the company's succession plan, the company said. In his new role, he will report directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Swanson, the company said.

The company is not ``actively recruiting'' a new president and chief operating officer, spokesman Peter Larmey said in an interview. McDonald is 57.

Donnelley fell 28 cents to $3.80 at 4:15 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. They have fallen 90 percent this year.
