Best Bond Fund

Lord Abbett Convertible Fund

The top-performing bond fund's key advantage this year was its equity-like characteristics. Lord Abbett Convertible Fund (LACFX) invests in convertible securities, which are bonds that can be swapped at certain times for company stock. The fund's top two holdings are Gilead Sciences and (PCLN). Overall, regular bonds had a disappointing year. The broad Barclays Aggregate Bond Index delivered a negative return of 1.7 percent.
