Philadelphia's Welcome America Festival

The founding fathers ratified the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. So it's fitting the city has an impressive Fourth of July festival. The celebration here lasts one week, starting on July 1. It includes educational programs and tours of the city's historic spots, food tastings and concerts. The Philly Fourth of July Jam concert finale includes performances by the Roots, John Mayer and Grace Potter, among others. Tax documents reveal $2.1 million in expenditures in 2011 by Welcome America Inc., the organization created to operate the city's festival, according to nonprofit tracker GuideStar.
