Velveeta

Velveeta isn't real cheese. If it were, the "cheese product" -- made partly of the cheese production byproduct whey -- wouldn't melt as well as it does. It also wouldn't last as long: Velveeta doesn't require refrigeration before it's opened. The original recipe for Velveeta was developed by Kraft's laboratories in 1928 and changed in 1953 to make a product with less fat and fewer calories.
