Check Paperwork

The end of the year is a great time to think about what's changed in your life-- marriages, births, deaths, property sales or purchases -- and make sure they are reflected in important paperwork. Check your insurance coverage: If you renovated your home in 2011, do you still have enough homeowner's insurance? And don't forget to change beneficiaries on insurance or retirement plans after a divorce or a re-marriage. When people die with outdated beneficiaries "it causes a lot of family strife and unintended consequences," says CitizensTrust's Walters.
