Dow Dive

When: Jul. 21-Aug. 10
What: There seemed to be no bottom this summer. In July, global debt fears, the deficit debate in Washington, and unease about unemployment and the economy scared investors out of the stock market. Yet more money left the market after Standard & Poor's downgraded the U.S. credit rating to AA+. By Aug. 10, the Dow had plunged to 10,719, from 12,724.4 on Jul. 21.
