Median home value: $1,000,000+
Mean retirement income: $126,581
Kings Point has the most residents of any of the top 10 towns by retirement income, and that still was below 5,000 as of the 2006-2010 Census American Community Survey. It is said to have been the model for F. Scott Fitzgerald's "West Egg" in "The Great Gatsby." In the 1920s it was home to the likes of Oscar Hammerstein and Walter Chrysler, founder of the Chrysler Corp., who bought a 12-acre waterfront estate from Henri Bendel. That estate is now home to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. A more recent town resident: Olympic ice-skating gold medalist Sarah Hughes.
