Glimmerglass Festival, Cooperstown, New York/July 7-Aug. 25

Listen to "Aida," "Armide" and "The Music Man" at this festival, which began in 1975. The operas take place inside the Alice Busch Opera Theater; during intermission, the walls slide open, so you can enjoy a lakeside view. Smaller concerts, such as a series called "Voices of South Africa," as well as lectures (including one on the role of trials in opera) are held in a nearby outdoor pavilion.

Price: Tickets for four events run from $68 to $476 -- depending on whether you attend all concerts over one weekend or several, as well as the seats you choose.
