Few things are tougher than planning a funeral. "You're under duress and time pressures and you're grieving," says Mark Duffey. "It's really hard to make decisions." To help, Duffey co-founded Everest Funeral Package, a "funeral concierge" service, now available to about 15 million employees and family members through employer-paid life insurance policies. Everest makes licensed funeral directors available around the clock to help set details with funeral homes and cemeteries. Everest also uses a price database to negotiate for clients. With costs for such service varying 250 percent from one funeral home to another, Everest can "save thousands of dollars," Duffey says.
