Australia’s retirement age is gradually rising and will reach 67 by 2023. On top of a pension for lower-income seniors, the government requires employers to contribute the equivalent of 9.25 percent of each employee's paycheck to private “superannuation” funds. That rises to 12 percent by 2020.
