Beer is America's biggest cookout expense. According to the Nielsen Co., Americans last year purchased 68 million cases of beer in the two weeks leading up to July 4, making it the fourth most popular holiday for drinkers after Labor Day, Memorial Day and Christmas. The average price per case is $20.49. According to SymphonyIRI Group, a market research firm in Chicago, Bud Light and Budweiser are top sellers, followed by Coors Light and Miller Lite.
