E. Coli Epidemic

When: May-June
What: The deadliest outbreak of E. coli on record infected 4,075 people and killed 50, almost all in Germany, according to World Health Organization data from July, the most recent available. Thousands of tons of vegetables were destroyed in efforts to control the spread of the disease, costing European produce farmers $610 million per week, according to a June report from Doane's Agricultural Report.
