Babies at Work
At 300-employee Schools Financial Credit Union in Sacramento, Calif., everyone from tellers to senior executives can bring their newborns to work. Babies actually cause few distractions, says Nathan Schmidt, vice-president of marketing at the credit union, which has hosted almost 80 infants over 10 years. New parents tend to return to work earlier and can do 75 percent of their normal work load, he says--preferable to hiring a temp or training a new worker. The tiny guests can stay until they're six months old. "A baby's last day is always a sad day," Schmidt says.
