Property tax per capita: $1,130
Estate tax: Repealed beginning 2013

Ohio Governor John Kasich has proposed slashing income tax in favor of subjecting more services to sales tax. Ohio’s General Assembly, controlled by a supermajority of Republicans, has until the end of June to approve the matter. Looking to capitalize on natural gas situated below shale formations in the state, Governor Kasich also wants to increase the severance tax on many natural gas and oil producers. Regardless of these controversies, Ohio is now more attractive to retirees who want to pass money to heirs; repeal of the state estate tax took effect in 2013.
